Here’s some news that may turn out to be a black eye for the dental tourism sector. According to a report, dental implants made in China, Mexico, and India may have harmful levels of lead in them. The American Dental Association wants everyone who has seen a dentist outside of the U.S. to see a local dentist and have their reworked teeth checked.

For dentists who outsource their work to other countries, it’s advisable that they check the product before using them on patients. Currently the A.D.A. Is investigating a report of an Ohio woman becoming ill from a product with high levels of lead coming from China.

For patients, please confirm with your dentist if they are using locally produced teeth implants.

There is a good possibility that their insurance might not cover such treatments.

However not everyone listened. According to a survey made last 2007, 100,000 UK residents went abroad for their dental appointment and its expected to rise further this year to 126,000. Most of these patients underwent crowns, dental implants, bridges, and veneers.
